White Asparagus In White Sauce - Spargel in Weißer Soße

29 oz fresh white asparagus spears, steamed
2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk
4 oz ham, cubed
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
1/4 teaspoon salt

Heat margarine in a saucepan. Add flour, blend. Gradually pour in water and milk. Stir constantly over low heat until sauce thickens and bubbles. Add cooked ham and seasonings. Gently stir in asparagus spears, heat through but do not boil. Serve in preheated serving dish.
Serves 4.
